Services Available in an Alcohol Rehab Program

Our alcohol rehab treatment program has many unique alcohol treatment components within. When referring to an alcohol rehab, we are referring to a residential alcohol rehabilitation treatment program. In alcohol rehab, the individual resides in the alcohol rehab facility until alcoholism treatment is completed. A person’s length of stay in the alcohol rehab program can last between 3 days to 10 days for alcohol detox and up to 8 weeks for effective alcohol treatment. The time a person spends in alcohol detox or alcohol rehab, depends upon a variety of factors; amount of alcohol consumed, frequency of use, severity of use, medical issues, psychological issues, motivation, drug use etc. The length of stay in alcohol rehab is different for each person, but research shows that people who go on to alcohol rehab after completing alcohol detox, do much better than those that just go through an alcohol detox program. However, we have also experienced with high functioning individuals (Executives, Professionals) that some of them required a shorter amount of time in residential treatment with great success.

Alcohol Detox in the Residential Alcohol Rehab Program:

Our alcohol detox program is only the first step in recovery from alcoholism or alcohol dependence. Alcohol detox is a process which generally lasts between three days and five days depending upon the factors mentioned above. The goal of an alcohol detox program is to assist the person by managing their alcohol withdrawal symptoms as they discontinue alcohol use. An effective social model alcohol detox program will have you seen by a doctor who will prescribe you medications to take while you are going through withdrawal from alcohol and reduce your alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

Alcoholism, also known as “alcohol dependence or alcohol addiction” is a disease that that has four definitive symptoms:

a.   Craving: An intense desire or compulsion to drink alcohol.
b.   Loss of control: The inability to manage one’s drinking alcohol on any given occasion.
c.   Physical dependence: Alcohol withdrawal symptoms, such as nausea, sweating, shakiness, and anxiety, occur when alcohol use is stopped after a period of heavy drinking.
d.   Tolerance: The need to drink greater amounts of alcohol in order to experience the same effect

Yes, alcoholism is a disease as established by the American Medical Association (A.M.A.). An alcoholic will continue to drink despite serious family, health, financial or legal consequences. Like many other diseases, alcoholism is chronic, meaning that it lasts a person's lifetime; it usually follows a predictable course; and it has symptoms. The risk for developing alcoholism, alcohol dependence or alcohol addiction is influenced by genetics, environment and lifestyle.
